Everyone remembers the gold ol’ days of the WWF with the Hardcore Championship being under 24/7 rule, title changes would occur anywhere and everywhere with any man, woman or child being eligible to win the Championship. It involved crazy situations and odd title changes. DDT took that one step further with the Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship which has seen over 1000 titles changes since January, sometimes it isn’t even to humans with a bus, a bin and a blow up doll all holding the title at some point.
Reckless Intent have had a 24/7 Hardcore Championship for a few years now with numerous title holders from Jackie Grady to Wee Jimmy, Bobby Roberts to Euan G Mackie, but since Jam O’Malley arrived in Reckless Intent the craziness has been cranked up to 11 with the 24/7 rule becoming literally 24/7.
Recently, since Mr News captured the Hardcore Championship, we’ve seen some of the biggest names in British wrestling capturing the title with names like Doug Williams, Darren T Goss, Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll all picking up the title for varying lengths of time with wrestlers taking advantage of Mr News being unprepared while organising his own Discovery Wrestling events. The title changes have even taken place in a dream and has seen wrestlers hoodwinked and tricked into submission on more than one occasion.
I, personally, love this. As a fan who started watching during this often hailed period, it brings a great sense of wackiness and fun that wrestling is about. It’s silly, crazy and often totally random.
Keep an eye on the Reckless Intent Wrestling (OSWtv’s One To Watch 2017 (Promotion)), they’ve certainly been becoming a company that are putting the word ‘professional’ into professional wrestling.
