We’re still in Tayport for the second part of Tay Of Reckoning as ArdlerMania gets closer and closer. The first episode from Tay of Reckoning was really good so I was hoping that that level would at least maintain, or better yet exceed.
FCW Women’s Championship – Moxie Malone defeated Cherry Knox by pinfall to retain.
Both wrestlers got a great reception, as Cherry Knox got a hold of the wrist of Moxie Malone and didn’t fancy letting go. Moxie got free before finding herself having her head locked by the challenger. Malone found her way out of that then had her neck being squeezed between the thighs of Cherry Knox. Cherry hit hard, ramming her knees into the back of the head of Moxie Malone.
Malone had to change tact and get out of the wrestling portion as Knox had her well scouted, moving into picking up the tempo to have Cherry chasing The Misfit. Malone and Knox met at a stalemate from a shoulder tackle resulting in both women running at each other with clotheslines on their mind to leave both laid out.
It was all to play for, Moxie went for the Unprettier that Cherry avoided for a double foot Eat Defeat to the back of Malone. Moxie struck with a Pele Kick to immediately turn the tables as the comeback began with clotheslines, a bulldog, and a running foot stomp with a basement flatliner flourish for a two count. Knox evaded a corner rush with a big boot, running knee, basement front dropkick in the corner. Cherry kept on the champion, a snap suplex got another two count with her attempt at a German suplex denied with Cherry rolling back and into another flatliner. It still wasn’t enough with Knox once again getting to her feet, a wild swing of a kick was ducked and Moxie Malone managed to deliver the Unprettier to retain.
An excellent match. Cherry Knox brought plenty of fire to put some weight behind her strikes that made them look fantastic and tread that line of brutality that made them so good, the match was smooth as butter with Cherry looking like a credible threat throughout. Moxie was on top form and it wasn’t a case of her having to drag her opponent up to her level, it was Cherry Knox saying “hello, I’m here, let’s go”. It was competitive with no villainous shade, the crowd sounded throughly entertained as was I.
DAPW Championship – Tommy Cross defeated Johnny Pressley by pinfall to retain.
It was two heavy hitters that didn’t waste time doing that heavy of hitting. Pressley tried to shake, rattle, and roll to discombobulate Tommy Cross which was doing a fine job until Cross took Johnny down at ringside with a back suplex thrown onto the apron. Tommy took charge, bringing the bout down to a familiar, more methodical, route.
Cross continued until his corner attack missed to give Johnny Pressley a chance to build an attack. No sooner had Johnny suplexed Tommy Cross, Tommy was rolling to the outside to immediately stop the momentum of Johnny Pressley, returning to unleash a lariat to put things back to Red Gate territory, making Pressley’s Tayport experience a nightmare. Johnny got away but collided with Cross when both men had a clothesline in mind.
Pressley got back to his feet first to send Tommy Cross around the ring for a Stinger Splash tour and an Airplane Spin. The spinning continued with a Johnny Pressley style big swing for a couple rotations. A Vader Bomb got a close two count as Tommy Cross held on. Pressley delivered the Skull Crushing Finale that had the crowd going crazy but it still was only for a near fall. Johnny went coast to coast but Cross just wouldn’t stay down.
Johnny picked up Tommy, who landed an adrenaline filled TKO. The first Cribbie Cruncher was dodged but a powerbomb set up the second attempt that was successful for Tommy Cross to remain as DAPW Champion.
Another belter of a title match. Plenty of intensity was shown as they leaned into leathering each other for an extended period. The final stretch made for plenty drama and the audience bit onto each near fall. No outside interference or underhanded tactics, which made Tommy Cross all the more dangerous in that he can be relentless on his own steam but has a menagerie of madmen at his disposal if he sees fit. A lot of good stuff out of this one.
Tay of Reckoning is fast becoming one of the best shows of the year for Fair City Wrestling in my opinion, four matches in and four high quality encounters. I’m looking forward to the finale next week.
